I Built an App With No Code. Then I Asked a Consultant to Break It.

John Hoad used it with a real prospect, then told me on camera exactly what was wrong with it

John Hoad, a senior marketing consultant at DCMN, spent an hour on this live call doing what most beta testers never do: telling me exactly what was wrong with the thing I built.

I don’t code.

Everything here was built with Claude, an AI coding tool, and I’m still learning how to direct it. This is the real, unfinished version of the Signal Forecaster, handed to a real user with a real prospect already loaded into the tool.

John’s feedback, unfiltered: the deck’s opening slide explains market trends to whoever’s presenting, when it needs to introduce the actual prospect’s challenge. There’s no client-name personalization on the title slide yet. The branding needs a way to disappear into whoever’s using it, so a prospect never mistakes it for a competing product. He wants an editing feature before the deck locks, a place to upload brand guidelines so fonts and colors match exactly, and a localization option for international prospects.

His confidence rating on the current build, walking into a live conference in 10 days: 4 out of 5.

John writes Working Lunch on Substack, marketing case studies built for your lunch break, and co-hosts the Studies in Human Want podcast.

Five pilot spots are open for fractional CMOs and consultants who want a tool like this in their own hands: [Signal Forecaster pilot link], in exchange for a 20-minute feedback call.
